Abortion Resources Post- Roe v. Wade Reversal

The Supreme Court’s decision to leave legal abortion in the hands of the states has worsened the patchwork of abortion access that is already incredibly difficult to navigate. MAC is here to not only support clients, but to help you as abortion supporters: We’ve compiled a list of resources that can help people learn more about the reproductive health care options available. Please share this list with anyone you think might need this information.

First, digital security is very important. Follow The Digital Defense Fund + ReproJob’s tips to keep your information safe before, during, and after your abortion care.

Check the legal status of abortion in your state or locality: The legality of abortion in states controlled by anti-choice legislators is changing day to day. There will be many legal battles in the coming months and years but you can use this Guttmacher Institute map to determine the legality of abortion care where you live.

If you need an abortion and/or support like travel, childcare, or other needs: Visit ineedana.com to find clinics, telehealth services, and practical support networks near you.

NOTE: If you are looking to make an appointment at a clinic, please use the link above to ensure that you are visiting a facility licensed to offer abortion care rather than an anti-abortion Crisis Pregnancy Center. CPCs are fake clinics that often pretend to offer abortion services or non-biased counseling, but they do not; instead, they bombard patients with false and misleading information to prevent them from accessing the care they need. There are no licensed medical professionals on the premises of most CPCs. They frequently rent buildings near real abortion clinics and copy their names and branding to trick people seeking care. You can check if a CPC is masquerading as a clinic using the CPC map.

If you need financial assistance to afford abortion care: Visit the National Network of Abortion Funds for a comprehensive list of abortion funds in the U.S. If you are going to an independent clinic, you can ask the clinic directly about funding from NAF. Similarly, if you are going to a Planned Parenthood, you can ask the clinic about Justice Funds.

If you need practical support assistance to make your care possible (transportation, accommodations, food, childcare, medicine, etc.): Visit Apiary Collective for a comprehensive list of funds that provide partial or holistic practical support in the U.S.

If you are pregnant and unsure how to feel or what to do next, or you want to talk about a past or current experience with abortion, adoption, parenting, infertility or pregnancy loss: Call the All Options peer-to-peer hotline (1-888-493-0092), or their faith based Faith Aloud hotline (1-888-717-5010) and they will connect you to counselors specially trained to support you.

If you need support over text instead of making a phone call: Text the Exhale Pro-Voice text line (1-617-749-2948) to connect with a counselor trained to support people after an abortion. They also assist anyone aiding a loved one after an abortion.

If you have questions about your legal rights or are being questioned by law enforcement about abortion or pregnancy loss: Contact the Repro Legal Helpline immediately for assistance.

If you are self-managing your abortion: The M+A Hotline provides support for self-managed miscarriage and abortion. Additionally, you can read more about self-managed abortion from our partners at Reproaction. Thousands of people in every U.S. state have been ordering abortion pills online from AidAccess. They've also been ordering advance provision pills, if they or anyone they know gets pregnant in the future and doesn’t want to be. If you are concerned about the laws in your state regarding ordering pills or self-managing your abortion, you should contact the Repro Legal Helpline.

If you have had abortions and want to share your story: Shout Your Abortion has a great spot to write your story. Personal stories are always powerful as we work to de-stigmatize abortion and assert that we can be pro-abortion without shame or stigma.

We find our strength in community, we are not alone. Please share this post with your friends, family, and community members so that they know how to access these vital resources.

MAC flew our first client using a volunteer pilot from Elevated Access! To drive, it would have been 10 hours round-trip and an overnight hotel stay. With commercial airlines, it would have cost over $900 and taken 4 to 6 hours each way with layovers and likely a hotel stay. With our pilot, the passenger left her house about 8am and was back home to her kids by 6pm on the same day. She reported that the plane was really nice!

This week our work with Elevated Access was highlighted in Rolling Stone Magazine. We're grateful for this partnership and are excited to help further expand the network of pro-abortion pilots in this country.

Lori Lamprich, a volunteer with Midwest Access Coalition drives women seeking abortions from Missouri, where the procedure is illegal, to Illinois, where it is legal (ANGELA WEISS AFP)

MAC has been in the news a lot lately and we want to highlight recent interviews with some of our volunteers. Lori, pictured above, spoke to STL AFP about her abortion and her role now as volunteer:

Lamprich got involved with the organization after having an abortion 15 years ago, and says it "breaks" her heart that women no longer have access to the same care she received.

"It absolutely strengthens my resolve," Lamprich says of the justices' ruling.

CBS News: "It reinforces my commitment"

In Chicago, another one of our wonderful and dedicated volunteers, Laurie, met up with CBS News to talk about her experience driving for MAC.

Another longtime Chicago volunteer for MAC, Adrienne, also spoke about her experience hosting people who wanted one on one support during their journey:

As Supreme Court Prepares to Rule on Roe, Illinois Once Again Ground Zero for Abortion Access

And last but not least, we are honored when former MAC clients get involved by volunteering with us and, in this case, organizing a protest in one of the most restrictive states, Missouri:

Roe v. Wade decision unites protesters for abortion-rights rally

Help us continue to provide practical abortion support to those who need it.
